Zelda is Declining

Let’s look at the complaints about Zelda that have been uttered since Ocarina of Time. Majora’s Mask’s 3 Day system makes the game unaccessible and the game is "too hard". Oracle of Seasons and Ages were not made by Nintendo, the boss fights are too difficult, and the combined ending was too convoluted to expect anyone to experience it. Four Swords and by extension The Minish Cap is too easy. Twilight Princess is too much like Ocarina of Time. Phantom Hourglass is too cartoony, stylus controls blow, and the game is again… too easy. Finally we get to Spirit Tracks: Game is too boring, cutscenes too long, and the train travel is stupid as it turns Zelda into an on rails shooter. All of this is said because Ocarina of Time told everyone that "this is what Zelda is suppose to be".

Games that should have been better: Super Smash Bros. Melee

Nintendo has a pretty good idea with the original Super Smash Bros. game, simply get all of their most loved characters together in one area and let them all beat the snot out of each other. Smash Bros. was an instant hit that allowed gamers the chance to create fanboy fantasy match ups like a Mario vs. Luigi fight to see who the better brother was. Or who’s the better mercenary: Fox McCloud or Samus? The original four player brawler was a multiplayer masterpiece that is deserving of great recognition. However, then Nintendo released Super Smash Bros. Melee and it turned out to be a dismal sequel that lacked the originality that the first game had. Melee just could not match the original Smash Bros. in terms of character diversity, level design and the aggravating character changes; it simply felt boring when compared to the original.

My Timesplitters Epiphany

RespawnAction: "I have been hearing/reading a lot of good things about the Timesplitters series for quite a while now. Back in the day I was a huge fan of the N64 Goldeneye game and had many a night playing multiplayer with my friends and cousin. Whipping out the dual P90’s or dual Lasers was great and I’m sure even today the multiplayer would be loads of fun.

Recently I had been looking at Youtube videos of Timesplitters 2 and saw a great similarity between that game and Goldeneye. I thought to myself about how I had never heard of the series before. I am sure my cousin had told me about it as he was always playing first person shooter games, but I guess I had blown it off. I have been playing a lot of online shooters and was in the mood for a nice single player adventure. I love those old school single player FPS games; the games that had a great focus on story as opposed to just the multiplayer. So after seeing Timesplitters 2 for a while now I finally made the trip to Gamestop and picked it up used for roughly $7. Quite a deal, huh? There’s something about buying a last generation game in this day and age, I just can’t describe it. Maybe it is my feeling of last generation games being superior to this generation. Who knows."

New trademark prompts thought of Eternal Darkness for Wii

Nintendo was on a Gamecube Wii-make spree last year with their slate of New Play Control games. Things have since slowed down, but maybe Eternal Darkness will get a second chance on the market.

The rights to the term Eternal Darkness lapsed, but Nintendo re-registered the game’s name in North America on February 10, 2010. This may be Nintendo simply protecting the term or perhaps Eternal Darkness is about to make a comeback either in sequel form or as a New Play Control Wii-make.
